If you work for a company that has an open culture, you’ll know what I mean by “open”–it’s about communication. In an open culture, employees are encouraged to ask questions and share their opinions with their co-workers. When there is no clear chain of command at the company, employees can feel more comfortable sharing ideas with each other because they know that they will be heard and considered by everyone else in the room. This creates a positive environment where ideas are shared freely without fear of retaliation or retribution from management because they aren’t afraid of being punished themselves if they speak out against something wrong within the organization’s operations (i.e., “don’t talk back”).

In contrast, companies with closed cultures tend not only towards employee silence but also toward isolating themselves from customers altogether; these types often create policies that prohibit any internal communications between departments–including customer service departments! This forces managers like me who are required to interact directly with customers every day into awkward situations where we must ask ourselves whether or not we should really be speaking candidly about certain details. 

The company’s culture is an important part of the success of any organization. It can drive employee engagement, improve productivity, and help grow your business.
